JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – – Missouri Farm Bureau has announced its support for Amendment 4 and is encouraging Missourians to vote “yes” on the measure in the August primary election. The primary election will take place on Aug. 4, 2026.
Amendment 4 will protect Missouri’s Constitution and election integrity. Voters will have an opportunity to safeguard our elections and ensure that future constitutional amendments reflect broad support from all Missourians. Amendment 4 will raise the threshold to amend the Constitution and fairly represent voters from urban and rural areas. Currently, constitutional amendments only require a simple majority for approval. Outside interests target Missourians with multi-million-dollar ad campaigns to enshrine their special agendas in the Constitution.
“Missouri’s Constitution is not for sale,” said Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins. “Missouri Farm Bureau members know first-hand what can happen when our Constitution can be bought and paid for by special interest groups. The threat to rural America’s livelihood is real. In states like Oregon, radical groups have gathered enough signatures to ask voters to outlaw livestock farming, hunting, fishing, and trapping. In Colorado, an initiative petition sought to criminalize farmers, ranchers and veterinarians who used standard husbandry practices to care for animals. Amendment 4 will protect Missouri’s Constitution from out-of-state interests and mega-donors. Each election cycle, we are pummeled with slick ads that turn our elections into a political game that is meant to distract and deceive voters. We believe the Constitution should not be frivolously tampered with. Missouri voters are smart. Let’s make the decision to protect our Constitution.”
Missouri Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization that advocates for farmers and the rural way of life. Each year, members across the state set organizational policy. Support for Amendment 4 reflects longstanding policy, dating back over 40 years and reaffirmed annually by delegates during the organization’s December annual meeting.
