“Missouri Farm Bureau applauds Congressman Billy Long on his bipartisan introduction of the Agricultural Certainty for Reporting Emissions Act (ACRE Act). The environmental “Superfund” law was never supposed to regulate ordinary farms, and this bill would continue that common-sense approach.  The ACRE Act would exempt most farms from being required to report air emissions from animals as “hazardous materials” under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Farm Bureau has long supported the idea that agricultural operations should not be subjected to CERCLA. In the face of recent radical court rulings that would require farmers to measure and report these emissions, Congressman Long’s legislation would provide much-needed certainty for Missouri’s livestock operations. We look forward to seeing the bill approved quickly in both the House and Senate.”
