Commodity Advisory Committees
Missouri Farm Bureau is a general farm organization. To focus on the various sectors within agriculture, Farm Bureau has commodity advisory committees that assist staff with issues affecting that specific industry. Advisory committees include beef, cotton, dairy, equine, feed grains and wheat, forestry, horticulture, rice, sheep, soybean and swine. Each year Farm Bureau members are appointed to the advisory committees by the state board of directors. Market Outlook Meetings
County Farm Bureau’s often schedule Market Outlook meetings to inform farmers and ranchers on the latest commodity price trends, weather predictions and market news. Check the calender of activities, or your county Farm Bureau office to learn if and when an outlook meeting is scheduled in your area.
MFB Commodity Conference and Legislative Briefing
The annual Commodity Conference is held in Jefferson City in mid-to-late February. The conference is a favorite meeting for members interested in current production agriculture topics. The programs are fast paced and informative. Leaders of MFB's commodity advisory committees often attend along with many other members. The conference is combined with the Legislative Briefing, making it one of the best two-day agricultural meetings of its kind in the state. The Legislative Briefing begins immediately at the conclusion of the Commodity Conference and includes meetings that also involve Farm Bureau's FARM-PACS.
MFB Equine Issues Magazine
Missouri’s equine industry continues to grow and we are very proud of the success our annually published equine magazine “Missouri Equine Issues.” This publication is well-received throughout the equine industry and communicate Farm Bureau’s involvement with that industry. Fence Laws
Missouri fence law was revised in 2001. Farm Bureau developed a brochure answering some of the most common questions on fence laws. Other resources include a review of state statutes and the University of Missouri Ag Law Center.
Commodity Contracts
As farmers and ranchers are continually searching for options to get more market value out of their grain and livestock. One alternative is contracting with a buyer before a seed is planted or an animal is grown. The producer promises a certain amount of a commodity in return for a guaranteed price. There are pros and cons to contracts, but many producers have found them useful. Farm Bureau has developed two checklists to help producers determine if a contract would work in their operation. The Checklist for Grain Production Contracts and the Checklist of Livestock Production Contracts were developed in cooperation with the Missouri Attorney General's Office.
